There's a natural tendency to approach life in a leisurely way. True, there is great importance in slowing down and smelling the roses. Procrastination is one of the greatest obstacles to accomplishment. We all experience procrastination. I'll do it later. I'll do it tomorrow. I'll do it when I get around to it. Someday I'll.
We all have a finite number of days we will be around on this planet. I have a calendar in my house that has every year, month, week, and day on it for 100 years. It starts the year I was born. Unless I'm one of the very few to make it past 100 years of age, every day of my life is on that calendar.
When I look at that calendar I see the day I was born. I see the day I graduated from High School, College, and Medical School. I see the day I got married and the days each of my two sons were born. I see great days, good days, and even some bad days. What this calendar reminds me of, is that there are only so many days.
If I find myself saying "Someday I'll lose weight, take a trip, call my friend, start a business, retire, or any other thing I may want to do, I can look at this calendar and say "OK, Which Day?". Many people treat life as if the days will never end for us. We go through life putting off the things we say we want to do. We either really don't want those things or we have no urgency.
We must take action and put a bit more speed in our lives. Not recklessness. Speed. If you're late or anxious to get somewhere, don't you move and drive just a little faster? Of course. We must decide what is important in our lives and begin today to move on them. If getting healthy is a high priority, then what are we waiting for? A sign, an illness, a friend or family member's death. We should stop waiting until a bad event motivates us to live our lives fully.
If you are serious about dropping extra pounds and getting lean and fit, start right now. Move fast to do the things you must get done. One of my mentors taught me to never let the sun set on a goal without having acted on it. Action is the only thing that matters. Many great minds have developed amazing ideas, plans, inventions, and thoughts, but without taking action these potentially great things are worthless.
There is a small window between thoughts and actions. We must open that window and jump through it. Today is the day. Now is the time. This moment can change my life and the life of those around me. You want to lose weight? You want to get fit? You want to feel and look your best? You want to add years to your life? You want to live life fully? Think Speed and Do it Now! Do it Now! Do it Now!
