Say Yes

Say Yes

Lately, Have you felt that there is a lot of negativity going on?  If you watch any news report, read any newspaper, engage on twitter, or have discussions with friends or family you'll feel the negative vibe.  Maybe it's the year long COVID event, maybe it's politics, or maybe we live in a time where we are getting less tolerant of anything we don't like or anyone who isn't like us.  Whatever the cause, we must work to fight this feeling.
The world is a big place but is getting smaller in regard to communication and connections.  Before email, internet, cell phones, and overnight delivery, most people were not familiar with most of the rest of the world and probably not familiar with how things were in a neighboring state.  Today, information is available at our fingertips.  One problem is that information is available at our fingertips.  There is so much information and anyone can say anything that we should be skeptical of what information we are getting.  And now there are companies and people who have decided to censor or cancel information they deem not true or more likely not in line with their beliefs.
This can contribute to the negativity we feel may be going on.  When we are feeling negative, we are more likely to close up, limit growth, and become a bit more grumpy.  Negativity over the long haul can develop into sadness and depression.  This darker view of the world can deplete our immune system, adversely affect our sleep and become a strain in relationships.
It is important to our mental and emotional health to learn to develop or keep an optimistic and more positive outlook on our lives and what's happening around us.  We must learn to focus our attention on what's possible and not about what is happening that we don't like. The big question then is: How do we stay positive when much of what's around us is seemingly negative?
Perspective is needed.  First of all, no matter how bad things seem to be, the sun comes up every morning. Right?  We awaken every morning.  Right?  We still have choices we can make each and every day.  Right?   Ultimately, no matter what other people say or what's happening in Washington or the rest of the world we are in charge of every moment of our lives.  Last I checked, we are still free to choose the life we want to live.
When we have liberty and freedom of choice, we are in charge of our own destiny.  With that liberty and freedom comes responsibility.   We are responsible for how our lives are going.  Once we decide that we are responsible for everything that happens to us and fully take on that responsibility, we can lift ourselves from under the veil of negativity and become much more optimistic.  If I'm in charge and I'm responsible for my life, possibilities are limitless.
Possibilities and Opportunities that are limitless come with unlimited optimism.  I find it extremely exciting and positive that I can live the life I want to live and develop and create any idea or plan or project I want to undertake.  This is where we come to Saying Yes.  We must learn to say yes.  Yes to possibility.  Yes to opportunity. Yes to adventure and yes to each other.  Sure, there are things that we should not be saying yes to.  Too much food, overindulgence in alcohol or substances, bad habits, and criminal activity come to mind.  There may be others for each of us.
When I talk about saying Yes, I'm talking about saying yes to our future.  What do we want our life to look, feel, and be like.  We only get one life here on earth and no one has shown me the contrary.  Saying yes implies making strong positive decisions.  Going for that thing you want to happen in your life.  When we were kids, we all had dreams and big goals.  We weren't afraid to talk about them either.  Unfortunately, somewhere along the line, a negative person may have stolen our dream or shot us down.
I'm here to tell you to Say Yes to your dream or that big hairy goal you want to achieve.  Say yes to working on it.  Yes, it's true that many times we do not achieve our big audacious goals in life.  It's not the end result that is necessarily what we need.  In most cases it's the learning and growth along the journey toward that dream that makes us the best person we can become.  Jim Rohn, a mentor of mine, says:  "Everyone should become a millionaire.  Not for the money, but for the type of person you must become to earn the million dollars".  On that journey one must learn, grow, build teams, work hard, be patient, persevere, and most importantly serve others.  Those are valuable lessons.
It's easy to settle for less these days.  Most Americans, even those in poverty, are living at a higher standard than most of the world's population.  We are fortunate to be living at this time in history.  We are fortunate to live in a land that allows for choice and freedom.  We can live a comfortable life and get by without driving toward that thing that deep down we know we would really like to have, do , or be.
It takes extraordinary thinking and hard work to get to that place in our lives we always thought we would be.  Say Yes to thinking about that big dream again.  Say Yes to being more positive and optimistic about the future.  Say Yes to the planning and work involved in getting where we want to be.  If getting leaner and more fit is that big goal, then Say Yes and start the project now.  If making more money and becoming more financially strong is your goal, Say Yes and begin figuring out how to get there.
Whatever goal or dream you have, now is the time to re-ignite it.  Many of our big dreams require years to accomplish and sometimes it can take a lifetime, but today is the day to start up the path.  The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.  Take the first step now.  One of my mentors told me to never let the sun set on my goal or dream without taking action.  That of course meant, start today.
Even if we can all live to be 100, that is a finite time period.  How much time do you have left?  No one can know that.  Start today and Say Yes to that thing that burns inside you.  That dream that can make you get up every morning with purpose and a smile on your face.  That goal that motivates you and makes life exciting.  Understand that we are all busy, we all have responsibilities to others in our lives.  Those responsibilities should also be one of the things that drives us toward the dream we have.
This year, if we choose, can be full of hope, full of excitement, and full of positivity.  This year can become the year that propels us toward the goals and dreams that have lived within us for years.  This year can be our best year ever, if we just...Say Yes!
